House-hunting rule number one: ensure you’re within walking distance to a fab coffee shop!
In Melbourne, you can barely walk a block without spotting (and smelling the delicious aromas of) at least five artisanal cafes. So since we moved from Brunswick to Coburg, Sim and I have been spending our quieter weekends sussing out the local coffee joints near our apartment.
Last weekend we rode our bikes a short way to The Eastern Bloc: a cosy, under-rated corner cafe located near Coburg’s train station.
We popped in for two x iced lattes and a small teacake (it was the pastel pink icing that got me). Everything was delicious! And because it was a warm day and we were sweaty from riding, we took one of the outside tables and sat in the sunshine and sipped our drinks; chatting our Sunday afternoon away. Pretty darn blissful.
The Eastern Bloc has a down-to-earth, homely vibe with a slight hint of quirk – it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area or you happen to miss your train and need a pick-me-up!
