If you’re looking for a place with authentic market vibes (and by that I mean stall-spruking, vegetable-exchanging, coffee-grinding, fresh bread-baking kind of vibes) look no further than the South Melbourne Market.
Sim and I spontaneously visited the market on a sunny Sunday afternoon and at 2pm it was still buzzing with the sights and smells of fresh flowers, organic fruit and many-a-coffee shop. We stopped in to Proper & Son for a coffee and couldn’t help but ogle their cake cabinet. Divine. The coffee was delicious. the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was just lovely. As you can tell from the photo below, I was pretty happy with it all.
Afterwards we met up with a couple of friends and wandered around the maze of stalls; most of them selling jewellery, clothing and artwork produced by local designers. Sim picked up a crazy-coloured shirt and I walked away with 4 punnets of berries, all in all, a pretty successful day!
If you’re looking for somewhere to lunch, a place to catch up with friends for a coffee or just somewhere to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere – give South Melbourne Market a go. I’m definitely going to check out their summer night market which is on from now until March 10th.
