2015 was an extremely busy year for me. There were a lot of changes throughout the year (different apartment, new job, new degree, new career opportunities) all of which I’m extremely grateful for. My 24th year was one in which I could feel myself growing up as I began to get excited & become more focused on adult-y things (buying new furniture, saving money, working hard and going out less). It feels great and I’m proud of the progress I made during 2015.
My focus for 2016 is to keep going. To keep building on all the things I’ve been working towards and to continue taking chances, doing scary things that although they seem intimidating are probably worth doing, and to give myself the best chance of creating the life I want for myself and the people around me. What’s that they say about positive affirmations? If you focus on what you want and put your plans into action, you will get there.
So I’m making note of all the things I’d like to achieve in 2016 – mostly to keep myself accountable but also so I can start the year feeling focused, determined and motivated to get shizz done.
- Practice yoga regularly
Good for the body and the mind. I’ve written a more detailed post about fitness & motivation here.
- Change my last name
This is something that has been on my to-do list for years. I’m in the process of changing my surname to that of my maternal side of the family, it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time and I’m both excited about it and also dreading all the fiddly paperwork.
- Launch Lillytales website
At the time you’re reading this, I will have launched this website! So exciting. I’m really looking forward to having a platform beyond Instagram to grow Lillytales and to share more content with you guys, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
- Give vlogging a go
I’ve been an avid vlog-watcher for over a year now and I’d really like to give it a go myself. Let me know in the comments below if this is something you’d be interested in seeing!
- Read 45 books in the year
Last year I set my GoodReads reading challenge at 50 books for the year. I read 39, so this year I’ve compromised and am aiming to read 45 books in total. Have you set your yearly reading challenge yet?
- Invest in travel
Sim and I would really like to travel more this year. I’ve taken a few international trips in the last few years so we’d really like to invest in traveling together. Tasmania is definitely on the cards during my mid-year uni holidays and hopefully we’ll also be able to head over to Europe at the end of the year once I’ve finished my degree. That thought alone is keeping me motivated!
- Keep a journal every day
This is an idea I’d really like to try. I can often be quite forgetful and I’d like to be able to look back at certain times and remember how I felt, what was going on in my life and what my world was looking like at that time so this year I’d like to give daily journaling a go.
I’d love to hear about the resolutions/ideas you’ve set for yourself in 2016 and if you have any tips on how to stay motivated and focused on your goals. Thanks for reading and come back soon!
